Lori Van Dusen, CIMA®, is the Founder and CEO of LVW Advisors, a registered investment advisory firm that serves both wealthy families and individuals, as well as nonprofit institutions throughout the United States. An advocate of client-focused strategies for more than 25 years, she has become the voice of reason in providing unbiased and integrated solutions in a fragmented financial services industry. Lori is passionate about numerous philanthropic causes, serving on several boards focused on urban education, health and wellness, and the fine arts.
Lori began her career in 1987 with Lehman Brothers, having a natural penchant for the investment industry. By 2004, she had achieved the title of Managing Director with Citigroup Smith Barney. In a pioneering move, she assumed the role of co-lead of Convergent Wealth Advisors’ Institutional Group in 2008, where she also served on the firm’s Executive and Investment Committees, managing approximately $8 billion in assets for clients. She founded LVW Advisors in 2011.
A recipient of numerous accolades, Lori was most recently ranked in the top five by Forbes in both the 2019 Top Women Wealth Advisors and the 2019 Best-In-State Wealth Advisors lists. In 2018, Lori was ranked #21 on Barron’s Top 100 Independent Wealth Advisors list — a ranking earned for the fourteenth time. Additionally, Lori is honored to have been ranked fifth in Barron’s 2018 Top Women Financial Advisors. In 2018, she was also ranked and profiled in Forbes edition of Top Wealth Advisors.
In 2017, Lori was featured on the J.P. Morgan Asset Management and Dow Jones panel discussion, “Let’s Talk: The Changing Face of Advice,” where she and Dr. David Kelly, Chief Global Strategist of J.P. Morgan Asset Management, discussed the investment and wealth management needs of today’s client and the client of the future. This inaugural production was widely promoted in both Barron’s and The Wall Street Journal. In addition, in light of her astute business acumen and numerous philanthropic endeavors, Lori is a highly sought out speaker and is frequently featured in premier investment publications, the most recent being Barron’s and Forbes.
In 2018, Lori was awarded the Alice Holloway Young Award for Distinguished Service by a Retired Trustee, presented by the New York Community College Trustees. This prestigious award recognized Lori for her fervent advocacy, leadership and on-going support of student success at Monroe Community College, where she retired as Chair of the Board of Trustees in 2008.
In recognition of her numerous contributions to the Rochester community, Lori will be inducted into the Rochester Business Hall of Fame in October, 2019, taking her place among the select 127 others who have been lauded previously.
Ms. Van Dusen has served on numerous boards in the past. She currently serves on the following boards: F.F. Thompson Health Board; Memorial Art Gallery Board of Managers; Monroe Community College Foundation Board and Executive Committee; Monroe Community College Star Power Committee; NYST PBA Signal 30 Committee Board and Finance Committee; Rochester Area Community Foundation Board, Investment Committee and Executive Committee; and University of Rochester Medical Center Board and Finance Committee.
Ms. Van Dusen was one of the founders of the Association of Professional Investment Consultants (APIC) and Citigroup Institutional Consulting. She holds the Certified Investment Management AnalystSM designation, administered by the Investments and Wealth Institute® (formerly IMCA) in conjunction with The Wharton School. Lori received her undergraduate degree from Ithaca College and a Master of Education from Harvard University.
A native of Rochester, New York, Lori is a long distance runner and an avid yogi, and enjoys decorating and savoring the area’s local music scene. She regularly cooks and hosts large Italian meals for her family and friends.
